Chapter 4: White spotted Fantail

During the lockdown, my Dad used to regularly go for an evening walk in our society's little jungle. This part of our premises is pretty isolated because of the vermiculture pits, but a nice foraging ground for a lot of birds. When my dad told me about the different varieties of birds he had seen, I couldn't stop myself and joined him for the walk for the next few days.

The bird that first caught my eye was quite a dancer๐Ÿ˜‚ - the White-spotted fantail. Fantail, the word itself is its meaning. And this very fact makes it very easy to identify any species of the fantail. Like many others, these birds too like to eat worms and insects, so there are a lot of them.

They were continuously jumping around on the branches, spreading their tail in the fan shape with that adorable looking face. White brow, black eyes, sharp bill, white belly running up and fusing with the black chest in white spots, and the beautiful grey fan at the back. Doesn't that look cute? Just look at him, or her, or whoever that is๐Ÿ˜›, or consider anything in nature, I don't think any amount of words are sufficient enough to describe its beauty. And I just cannot get enough of it. Right now, my laptop contains more than 1K photos of almost every bird I've encountered until now and I'm reluctant to delete even one of them.

Yeah, so, BACK TO FANTAIL๐Ÿ˜‚. Actually, I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but it looks like a very happy bird. It just jumps around on the trees making a very very very faint sound - at one instant it's at top of one tree and at the other, it's at the bottom of the other. Also, it is very fast in catching the flies hovering above the garbage pits.

In the 3-4 days of my visit to that forest, I got to observe and capture many varieties of birds and I always found the fantail enjoying in the backdrop of the sunset.

Happy birding!
