Chapter 11: The Rescue Operation

(Date: 05/07/2021)

"WAKE UP APOORVA!!!", my mum yelled at me. I woke up, thinking I was late, just to realize that it was only 8 am (my regular time😂). She called me again, "Wake up!! Wear your glasses and come here with your camera!!" Well, this is a usual thing, mom calling me out with my cam so that I can capture something beautiful that she is watching. Half asleep, I picked up my cam and was about to head out lazily when I heard this "There's an OWL IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE!!! COME QUICK!!"

Yes, an Owl. MY FIRST OWL🥺

It was a Barn Owl trapped in our duct because it is closed from the top with nets to prevent pigeons from nesting there. It was looking at us with its "Oh so beautiful!" black eyes.😍

Barn Owl

Mum had heard somewhere that Owls understand what we say so we were trying to call it near us so that it realizes that there's another way out from the lobby. All it did after this was rotate its freaky neck and look at us innocently. The only solution we had at that time was loosening the net above and we began working. We called the authorities of our society to get the key to the terrace. Since the net was too tight, mom and I were trying to figure out a way to remove it without causing any damage to the public property.

Meanwhile, the owl got more scared as it thought we were going to capture it from above. What happened next? It VANISHED. Yep, in thin air. We thought that it flew out from the lobby.

But the investigation continued.....

The last person to see the owl was my dear Grandma. The witness said that before heading to the kitchen, she saw the victim sitting on the window of the flat in front and was facing towards it. And there it was!!! That flat is currently getting renovated and has a portion of the said window removed. We asked the owners to open that flat, went inside with the lady and this large, cutie was banging its head on their bedroom window.

So we opened all the other doors and windows and left the flat for the owly to find a way out on his own. Later we went back in again to check on him only to find it still banging on the window. Then our neighbor (the owner of the flat) volunteered to go inside and open the window. All four of us were very scared... cause no matter how cute it looked, its legs were so damn scary and strong. But once the man entered that bedroom owly got scared and flew to a different corner of the room and he quickly opened the window. And without wasting a second the cutest Barn Owl flew out of the window, the minute my neighbor stepped away from it. We all breathed a sigh of relief and successfully carried out a rescue operation.

Happy Birding!!
